
Born in Sichuan, China in 2001.
My practice is concerned with how bodies and desires that resist incorporation into normative narratives are organized and processed within structures formed through the intersection of culture and power. It also considers how traditional cultural forms are reactivated under contemporary conditions, and how they regain efficacy when brought into contact with present social tensions.
Drawing both from public rituals embedded in Chinese tradition and from behavioral paradigms derived from childhood memory and the pornography industry, these materials are translated into ritual structures. Ritual functions here as an operational method rather than a representational form. States of affect or desire that are difficult to name—yet repeatedly inscribed onto the body—are staged and tested as conditions rather than expressions. These states are at once personal and widely shared. Formal languages drawn from Chinese cultural contexts, including the metaphorical logic of black-and-white imagery and traditional dispositifs such as banquets, witchcraft, and taboo, are continuously retranslated so that they no longer operate as symbols, but as active structures.
Rather than proposing liberation or resolution, my work exposes how mechanisms that appear natural continue to sustain structural forms of violence. It establishes conditions in which bodies, relations, and impulses that cannot be fully stabilized within public discourse are able to persist within the structures the work sets in motion.
