The language of innocence:happenings

"Innocence" means not being bound by experience and knowledge, so that I can be more sensitive to the coexistence of all things.




Recalling all kinds of conspections and curiosity about the world in my childhood, I realized that looking at the world innocently seems to be a cognitive way that is gradually replaced by experience. "Innocence" means not being bound by experience and knowledge, so that I can be more sensitive to the coexistence of all things. How do I find those hidden languages when they are submerged in the usual appearances?

"Language", as a condensed form of cognition, affects how we see the world. Seeing the world differently means rejecting stubborn cognitive habits in order to construct different linguistic systems. I entered the natural space, without any plans and presuppositions, and transformed ordinary behaviors according to immediate feelings, trying to present an innocent and neglected way of knowing the world. On the one hand, I used the body as a medium to have a direct dialogue with things in nature and captured the shadow of connection from the traces produced by performance. On the other hand, it presented the existing laws between natural objects through the intervention of performance. My creative process is a progressive exploration, starting from the change of the appearance characteristics, and gradually focusing on the flow of the internal state of things.

In The language of innocence:happenings, I tried to find the primordial connections between natural things, and to place accidental performance in a new way of knowing. In the scene where the performance is produced, I gave up thinking about daily trifles, focused on feeling the moment and experiencing them immersed, and recorded them through photography and video, daily behavior was transformed into a focused and slow process, and performance became a innocent language gradually revealed. And, as my self-consciousness gradually became hidden in nature, I began to feel the neglected connections between things, and gained pure peace.



回想起童年时对世界的种种猜想和好奇,我意识到天真地看待世界,似乎是一种逐渐被经验替代的认知方式,“天真”意味着不被经验和知识裹挟,才能更敏感地体察到万物之间共存的联结。当它们已被淹没于习以为常的表象中,我该如何找到那些隐秘的语言?

“语言”作为认知方式的凝练,影响着我们如何看待世界。用不同的方式看待世界,意味着需要拒绝顽固的认知习惯,以构建不同的语言系统。我进入自然空间,不做任何计划和预设,根据即时的感受将寻常的行为变形,试图呈现一种纯真而被忽视的认识世界的方式。一方面,我将身体作为媒介,与自然中的事物产生直接对话,从行为产生的痕迹中捕捉到联结的影子;另一方面,通过行为的介入去呈现自然物之间本就存在的规律。我的创作过程是一次递进式的探索,从表象特征的变化开始,逐渐关注到事物内在状态的流动。

在《呓语》中,我试图寻找自然事物间的原始联结,将偶发行为放置在新的认识方式中。在行为产生的现场,我放弃了对日常琐事的思考,专注于感受当下的时间并沉浸地体验它们,并通过摄影和录像为现场记录,日常行为转变为专注而缓慢的过程,行为成为一种天真的语言逐渐显现。并且,当自我意识逐渐隐匿在自然中,我开始感受到事物之间本就存在的被忽视的种种联结,获得了纯粹的宁静。

I saw a dying tree in a nearby park. The leaves and fruits were
scattered under the tree. I suddenly realized that in the process of tree growth, leaves and fruits are the end of one life and the beginning of the next life, life is not linear but cyclic. So I collected leaves and fruits and placed them in the shape of a root system, imagining that they would nourish the root system underground and bring new life to the tree.

Sunny days rarely occur in the region where I live. On one sunny day, I saw someone planting garlic in the soil. This daily behavior made me realize that the essence of agriculture is to convert natural energy into things needed by human beings, and sunlight is the most common and primitive natural energy. So I inserted many matches into the soil to simulate the way of agricultural cultivation, using the principle of sunlight to generate heat, lighting it with the help of a magnifying glass, and presenting invisible energy changes with the generation of a concrete flame.

When ice melts into water, it changes from solid to liquid and hides in nature. Hiding is such a magical thing, but why do we take ice hiding for granted? I placed twelve pucks in a circle on the lawn and waited for them to melt or evaporate until they were gone. In this long process, things are subtly changing from moment to moment. We are so eager to see results that we overlook the wonderful fluidity of the process. I wanted to show the whole process of the ice ball melting objectively, and to express the fundamental laws of nature through it.
